Journal Portraits
These photographs are inspired by entries from found diaries.
I recreate each moment using a loose mix of the author's description and my imagination. Being a diary keeper myself, I am interested in how we interpret the events of our lives and string them together into narratives. When we record them in a journal we are keeping a long-running conversation with ourselves, and essentially creating a story. These are stories that we usually keep to ourselves.
I began this series after several years of hanging on to a full diary that I discovered for sale in a thrift store.
In progress!
